BitCasa-vs-Dropbox

Storage Wars: Dropbox vs. Bitcasa

Why Cloud File Storage?

Online cloud storage isn’t anything new. In fact, users storing their personal files online has been around for many years; over and above emailing attachments to yourself. Although many contend to host your plethora of digital “stuff” on a secure cloud, few have maintained their promises of: storage size, transfer speed, file security and platform-availability.

Microsoft’s IDE for the win?

WebMatrix

This is one monster of an IDE. I thought Aptana Studio was beastly, but in compairison not so much anymore. Within WebMatrix lies the tools you need to dabble with databases and frameworks, pick between open source and .NET coding environments and works as a live site monitor for you published projects including a SEO back-end!

First you get what looks simlar to a windows-update type platform which you pick the options you wish to install alongside your WebMatrix environment. Once you setup your required platforms you wish to develop on you’re good to go and ready to work.

Although fully featured, there’s a bit of a limited developer user-base for this monster IDE because it’s PC only for people working on ASP to PHP and back. WebMatrix gives you a solid foundation to start all your projects in one, well organized and maintained, place.

The WebMatrix interface is pretty (at least from my preference) but the whole IDE feels sluggsh and takes way to long to preform some routine tasks.

HTC Touch Pro2; XAndroid is here!

Sticking with Windows Mobile 6.1 finally pays off.  After upgrading to the HTC Touch Pro 2 from Blackberry Pearl 8130 from Telus Mobility 4 months ago I was starting to feel something I thought I never would; Iphone envy. There I said it. I would never pay and get an Iphone, but I had to admit I wanted one for a moment.

Thankfully, I’m a logical guy and know that it’s not the HTC Touch Pro2, it’s by HTC and is a wonderful piece of hardware. A fantastic phone with thought out architecture and a freakin’ sweet keyboard. No matter how awesome touchscreen technology is, I NEED my keyboard. So really, my problem is with Windows Mobile 6.1. For some reason Telus has not spoken about any future updates for the Touch Pro2 so I took it upon myself like many others to find something more. And here it is:

Their are various builds of Google’s Android platform on various HTC, Samsung, Nokia Smartphones. Until now, however, each of the Android flavours have been shady and unreliable at best.  What …

Linux IS NOT Microsoft Windows!Problem #1: Linux isn’t exactly the same as Windows.

You’d be amazed how many people make this complaint. They come to Linux, expecting to find essentially a free, open-source version of Windows. Quite often, this is what they’ve been told to expect by over-zealous Linux users. However, it’s a paradoxical hope.

The specific reasons why people try Linux vary wildly, but the overall reason boils down to one thing: They hope Linux will be better than Windows. Common yardsticks for measuring success are cost, choice, performance, and security. There are many others. But every Windows user who tries Linux, does so because they hope it will be better than what they’ve got.

Therein lies the problem.

It is logically impossible for any thing to be better than any other thing whilst remaining completely identical to it. A perfect copy may be equal, but it can never surpass. So when you gave Linux a try in hopes that it would be better, you were inescapably hoping that it would be different. Too many people ignore this fact, …

Linux is hurting children..

Honestly, I don’t believe some of the things that people do. The fact that this woman is a COMPUTER TEACHER dumbfounds me every time I read over this email sent to HeliOS, a Linux Distrobution. Read on in disbelief..

-=-=-=-=-Taken from HeliOS Blog :: http://linuxlock.blogspot.com/2008/12/linux-stop-holding-our-kids-back.html

This blog is momentarily interrupted to bring you a snippet of recently received email.

“…observed one of my students with a group of other children gathered around his laptop. Upon looking at his computer, I saw he was giving a demonstration of some sort. The student was showing the ability of the laptop and handing out Linux disks. After confiscating the disks I called a confrence with the student and that is how I came to discover you and your organization. Mr. Starks, I am sure you strongly believe in what you are doing but I cannot either support your efforts or allow them to happen in my classroom. At this point, I am not sure what you are doing is legal. No software is free and spreading that misconception is harmful. These children look …
